Platelet Rich Plasma comes from your own blood, making it a natural alternative to other fillers and injectables. To get PRP, Dr. Z draws a small sample of your blood, then spins it in a centrifuge for a few minutes. This separates the plasma from the other particles. That plasma is filled with platelets that stimulate natural healing properties within parts of the body when reinjected - hence the name “platelet-rich plasma.”

Platelet Rich Plasma x Microneedling

Adding platelet-rich plasma to microneedling treatments is by far the most common Miami PRP treatment that Dr. Z performs. This is because the two treatment methods complement each other so well.

Microneedling (also known as collagen induction therapy) involves taking a device that has a series of small needles and using them to stimulate collagen production and healing in areas of the skin that need attention. Adding PRP injections to this process further stimulates healing and collagen production in the area, amplifying the results and increasing the duration between treatments. There are also some new studies that show exciting results when using the PRP and microneedling combination to treat acne scars, age spots, and other skin blemishes.

Platelet Rich Plasma x Fat Grafting

Like platelet-rich plasma treatments, fat grafting is a technique that uses the body’s own cells to sculpt and change your look. In the case of fat grafting, fat can be taken from a part of the body where it is not wanted (such as extra fat from the belly, hips, or flanks) and then deposited somewhere it would be more appreciated (like the breasts, buttocks, lips or cheeks). Because the deposit is made with your own fat, it is 100% natural and the results can last as long as the fat remains there.

That last point is key: as long as the fat remains there. That’s where platelet-rich plasma comes into play. By mixing PRP with the fat and injecting them together, some studies have shown that more of the injected fat will “take” - that is, be accepted by the body - than without the addition of PRP. Dr. Z is a surgeon who has seen the benefits of adding PRP to fat grafting procedures firsthand and is impressed with the results. He generally recommends adding PRP to most fat transfers where possible to encourage more fat to take hold following the procedure.
