Who is a candidate for a Fat Transfer?

The ideal candidate for fat transfer surgery meets the following criteria.

• You are healthy
• You do not smoke
• You have realistic expectations
• You have enough excess body fat
• You want a natural-looking enhancement that does not look overdone
• You have a positive self-image but are disappointed by a lack of volume in either your face, hands, breasts, or buttocks

Fat Transfer Recovery

The recovery time varies based on the amount of fat harvested and the number of areas treated. In general, you can expect some swelling and occasionally bruising. These effects should subside in a few days to weeks. Most fat transfer patients can return to work and social activities within a week.

Dr. Zuriarrain will instruct you to avoid strenuous activities, heavy lifting, smoking, and certain medications/supplements for up to six weeks. Buttock fat grafting requires that you avoid applying pressure to your buttocks as much as possible for two to three weeks. You may be asked to wear a compression garment in the liposuction area.

Fat Transfer Results

Your results will begin to appear after the initial swelling subsides. It takes approximately six to nine months for the newly transferred fat to establish a blood supply. During this time, it is normal and expected for some of the fat cells to die off. In most cases, up to 70 percent of the initial fat graft remains. The surviving fat graft is considered permanent. Avoid weight fluctuations to maintain your results long-term.
